Día de los Muertos is a time to come together with your family, and to pay respects to your departed loved ones by creating elaborate altars with which to honor them. On these altars, we leave goodies to be enjoyed by the spirits of our loved ones from the other side. Such goodies might include pan de muerto, fruits, or tequila for our spicier relatives. If building your own altar is too much for you however, there are several altar-heavy venues and festivals that you can explore during this year’s Day of the Dead weekend. You can delight in the artistic creations of others without having to go through too much trouble yourself.

I will recommend leaving a shot or two of tequila out for your deceased loved ones though, regardless of the artistic caliber of your homemade altars. A spirit’s journey back to you is probably pretty tough, so show some appreciation.
