Local filmmaker Alexia Salingaros, 17, has picked up another win for her short film Lady of Paint Creek. The short was recently named Best Experimental Film (Junior Division) at the 12th annual CineYouth Festival in Chicago. The CineYouth Festival features films from artists ages 10-22.

"We are continually impressed with the talent of these emerging voices," said Rebecca Fons, CineYouth Festival education director. "Our award winners are a perfect example of the quality of work that audiences have come to expect and enjoy at CineYouth."

As a CineYouth Festival winner, Salingaros takes home a cash prize and will get to screen her film at the 52nd annual Chicago International Film Festival in October.

"CineYouth has such prestige attached to it at the international level that I am genuinely honored to have received a category award," Salingaros told the Current today. "I think that the continuing success of Lady of Paint Creek speaks to the emotions of the piece. Though there have been countless interpretations of the storyline, the music and color seem to translate universally."

In March, Salingaros, who is finishing up her senior year at Saint Mary's Hall, was awarded the Texas High School Shorts Jury Award at the South by Southwest Film Festival for Lady of Paint Creek. It was her third consecutive year accepted into the Austin-based festival.
