This year, the San Antonio Missions join a blue hole in the Bahamas, Ethiopa's New Years Day (September 11) celebration and The Three Castle Route in Sigulda, Latvia in
National Geographic's
"Best Fall Trips 2015" guide.
Granted World Heritage Site
status on July 5, the Missions San José, San Juan, Concepción, San Antonio de Valero (commonly called the Alamo) and Espada are the United States' most recent addition to the World Heritage List and are the first in Texas.
The article recommends visitors walk or bike to visit the landmarks by using the Mission Reach, which features a hiking-and-biking trail that will lead visitors to Mission Espada, with connections to Concepción, Espada, San José and San Juan.
After a day on the South Side visiting the historic site, visitors are sure to be hungry. The fall trips guide recommends a stay at the
Hotel Emma, which opens in November; dining at
Southerleigh; and a visit to
Brick Marketplace at the Blue Star Arts Complex.
