The elegant St. Anthony Hotel
(300 E. Travis St., 210-227-4392) first opened its doors in 1909 as the only luxury hotel within San Antonio limits. During historic periods of Prohibition, the establishment was one of the few environments in which patrons could safely (and legally) drink, and throughout the years, higher-to-dos such as former President Lyndon B. Johnson frequented the hotel, escorted by his Secret Service.
Today, the hotel exists as a timeless tribute to its famed golden age, and has even expanded its scope in developing cocktail lounge St. Anthony Club, Rebelle fine dining and Haunt — a cocktail bar inspired by the notorious, sinister legends regarding the hotel's history.
For 2016, the St. Anthony Hotel is bringing back "Jazz on the Rocks" and new "Broadway Nights" to spruce up weeknights in SA through musical
sophistication and cocktail artistry.
The weekly series "Jazz on the Rocks" has returned to St. Anthony Club this spring, featuring live jazz performances, happy hour deals and complimentary
hors d'oeuvre prepared by the hotel's executive chef Michael Mata. Every Tuesday from 5-7 p.m., the club is delivering smooth jazz and discounted, handcrafted cocktails all from outside the hotel's luxurious Peacock Alley.
If you happen to be in the mood for something a little more substantive than just hors d'oeuvre, you can order off the bar's menu, which includes artisan cheese boards, locally cured meat, calamari fries, ceviche and more. Pair your meal with The Triple S, a St. Anthony Club signature cocktail emblazoned with elements of smoky Texas BBQ, jalapeño chili, watermelon and tequila, and I swear jazz tunes will have never sounded so good.
And just when you thought you'd had enough fun for a weeknight...
are coming St. Anthony Club. Each Monday evening from 5:45 p.m. to 7:45 p.m., talents from the Woodlawn Theater are bringing Peacock Alley to life with their
show tunes and charisma, alongside the hotel's treasured Hamburg Steinway piano — which only recently made its grand return, fully restored and ready to captivate St. Anthony's audiences once again.
Complete with happy hour specials and even more complimentary hors d'oeuvre, "Broadway Nights" are the perfect way to kick start your week, or to demonstrate your own musical expertise (as the mic is open to anyone who has signed up and provided his/her own sheet music).
St. Anthony Hotel is offering free of charge valet services for both "Jazz on the Rocks" and "Broadway Nights," so you can begin your night in San Antonio's beautiful theater district with ease.
