It’s Back

San Antonio Restaurant Week is almost upon us. Starting August 13, more than 100 restaurants will serve up prix-fixe menus that show off their skills. The restaurants are broken down into two tiers; the first will feature three-course $15 lunches and $35 dinners while tier two will feature three-course $10 lunches and $25 dinners. New Helotes Bar

The bar owners behind The Hangar Bar & Grill, The Three-Legged Monkey and The Ringer Pub have announced the opening of Stout House this September. The new, 3,000-square-foot bar will replace Red Square Bar and ditch the wall of vodkas for 20 craft beers on tap, table seating, an outdoor patio and a pub-style atmosphere. 11851 Bandera Road, Suite 119.

More Brews

With the Lonestar Neighborhood Association and the city’s Zoning Commission behind them, San Antonio City Council unanimously approved San Antonio Brewing Co. to proceed with the renovation of their 1,800-square-foot space. 

San Antonio Brewing Co., headed by local owner Vera Deckard, is scheduled to open the brewpub in November at 264 E. Lachapelle. The brewpub was previously slated to open inside Hemisfair park.

Kids Love Macs

Two crown jewels of San Antonio are joining forces at long last. Starting the first week of August, Bakery Lorraine teamed up with the DoSeum to bring new menu items to the DoSeum Cafe. According to a press release the two sent out Tuesday, the menu will feature Bakery Lorraine’s famous Parisian macarons and divine pastries in addition to child-friendly items such as house made applesauce, a grilled cheese sandwich and an almond butter with peach or grape jelly sandwich. For hungry adults, the cafe will offer tasty options like avocado toast, a chicken salad sandwich and a chop salad. 

Since being established in 2011 by chefs Anne Ng and Jeremy Mandrell and operator Charlie Biedenharn, Bakery Lorraine has quickly become one of San Antonio’s most popular and beloved sweet stops by serving handmade French pastries using only the finest ingredients. It has been named one of the best new bakeries in the U.S. by Food & Wine and CNN’s Eatocracy Blog, as well as one of the “13 Destination Bakeries” by Conde Nast Traveler.  

“We are thrilled to be expanding more and now partnering with a San Antonio favorite like the DoSeum,” Biedenharn said in a prepared statement. “We have designed a special menu for the DoSeum Cafe, keeping in mind the children coming to the museum, but also making sure we have offerings for the parents.” 2800 Broadway, (210) 212-4453.

Bars and Books

The Texas Book Festival is getting us warmed up for their annual Lit Crawl on November 5 with a week devoted to Literary Libations from August 15 to 19. Participating San Antonio bars include Botika, Paramour, Sternewirth at Hotel Emma, TBA and The Esquire Tavern, which will feature Midnight in Mexican, a Ancho Reyes-laced cocktail that pays homage to Alfredo Corchado’s book on the drug cartels in Mexico of the same name.

A percentage of proceeds from each drink sold will be donated to the Texas Book Festival.

Free Ribs

Next time you find yourself elbows deep in barbecue sauce while eating baby back ribs at Tony Roma’s, remember to snap a photo of your saucy face.
