San Antonio producer Beautiful Lou
In 2011, SA native Beautiful Lou hooked up with A$APs Rocky and Ferg for "Kissin Pink," on Rocky's debut Live. Love. A$AP. On the mixtape, A$AP Rocky first reached stardom with his combo of NYC attitude and the Sprite-slow textures of Texas rap. On this track and the heavy-hitter "Trilla," SA's Beautiful Lou exported the Southern rap sound, flew it up to New York and threw it on the A train to Harlem.
Lou, whose production credits include Lil B, Kitty Pryde and Action Bronson, creates a codeine-chilled background for A$AP Rocky to rhyme about "styrofoam cups with jolly ranchers at the bottom." A$AP Ferg comes off the bench for the second half, repping the restrained sing-song that he would develop into full Fergenstein eccentricity on his 2013 debut Trap Lord.
Next week at SXSW, you can catch Beautiful Lou performing at The Palm Door on Wednesday, March 18, along with Yung Simmie, Aston Matthews, Les and more.
