Whether he’s dolled up in drag (while still sporting his long beard,) rapping or doing both simultaneously, Chris Conde is a full-time badass and advocate for LGBT rights, a growing cause in the stereotypically homophobic community of hip-hop.

Chris Conde's new EP Twisted Kite Strings is a deeply personal collection of songs that detail a man's journey to sobriety. Firmly rooted in San Antonio after enduring homelessness and drug addiction, Conde infuses his experiences into his lyrics, rapping about his struggles with past demons.

“Giraffever” is one of the most intense moments on the six song EP, coming from the heart of a man trapped in his own personal hell. “I’m sick and tired of crying, dying, eating my own vomit, honest, take this is as a promise. I don't wanna go home with all of this,” spits a passionate Conde, a hostage to his addictions. On “Get Free,” the EP’s secret song, Conde confronts his past to show the toll that addiction takes, “I want to stand naked before you show my weakness, so that maybe all my scars can be all your teachers.”

With Alyson Alonzo, Andrea Vocab Sanderson and Nick Long. Friday, March 27, $5 Donations, 7pm, Mana House, 1160 E. Commerce
