It doesn't matter if it concerns the great SA v. ATX taco war of 2016, the Spurs, or anti-Trump rallies and pinatas, San Antonians are fiercely passionate. Our music scene is no exception to the SA standard of giving a shit, so the seventh annual Local Music Week's a welcomed entity that can be felt (and heard) on the famous St. Mary's Strip and venues across the city. The designated week's goal is to give props and an extra platform to musicians who've worked their assess off, on stage and in the studio, while giving both the aurally enlightened and tone-deaf music lovers a chance to bask in the glow of our city's culture.

But, as with anything subjective, some of the music is going to be orgasm-inducing, while others are just going to make ears fucking bleed.

LMW kicked-off Sunday with a "hot dog social" accompanied by diverse live bands Verisimilitude, 16 Psyche, Volcan and The Foreign Arm at Frank, a artisan sausage eatery and budding live music hot spot.

Tonight at 7pm, the place to be is CO LAB (723 N. Alamo St.) - a space where starving artist can collectively create without the fear of eviction notices - to get a well-rounded visual 'n' aural experience only San Anto can offer with Optic Arrest, Baby Bangs, 16 Psyche and Saturn Skies. The variety of random genres will make the night feel like a Whitman Sampler, ranging from indie rock to electronica, but, with both music and chocolate, some may contain nuts. The show will be rounded out by local artist and their installations, so there's sure to be something to please the eye and the ear.

Wednesday night will host two concerts.

Going down at 6:30pm and returning to Co Lab for a second night, the San Antonio Music & Media Mixer event will be less jamming out, and more interaction with reps from the local media, music-oriented businesses and organizations. Hopefully, the food, drinks, and beats by DJs Donnie Dee, Chacho and Jester the Filipino Fist will make up for the lack of vomit and headaches.

Starting at 9pm, Vapure E-Hookah Lounge (5431 Grissom Rd.) will feature Vaporwave artist Mr. Pidge, trip-hoppers Voodoo Boogaloo (who're way better for you than crystal healing) and Saturn Skies, complete with a miniature local art showcase.

Shit will get real Thursday when the Hip Hop Showcase destroys the roof of Phantom Room (2106 N. St. Mary's St.). Starting at 9pm, the heavy bill features over 12 featured rappers, most prominently fan faves Chisme and Worldwide

Friday's for the punks with the Korova's (107 E Martin St.) Punk Rock Social. Even though the lineup of over 15 bands features varying degrees of "hardcoreness," there's something for everyone's pain tolerance.

Instead of an issue of whether San Antonio's music scene "sucks" or "rocks," Local Music Week is a reminder to appreciate something bigger than struggling musicians in our "city on the rise," it's crucial to support the arts.
