There are festivals for just about everything close to the hearts of San Antonians, so if bacon and tamale fests exist, SA's favorite treat deserves a celebration for keeping it cool on 100 degree days. Just like a stone-cold raspa, life can be sweet, salty and sour, so lets part with the sticky and enjoy the sugar rush at Raspa Fest 2016.
Hosted by frosty confectioners Big Daddy's Eats & Treats and Royal Nation Entertainment at Rosedale Park, Raspa Fest was dreamed up by the "Big Daddy" himself, Jaime Morales, back in 2014 as a way to give back to the community. Dedicated to all things chilly and delicious, there will be a raspas tournament to see which San Antonio snow cone artisan is the city's most creative. In addition to subzero sweets, food vendors will have a wide variety of foods to balance the sugar high.
In addition to brain freeze, the fest will also feature a choice lineup of national and Texas artists, including original member of the Cover Girls Angel Clivillés, Latin trio TKA, Miami Vice actor turned singer Coro and "Because I Love You (The Postman Song)" balladeer Stevie B. Also. Tejano bands La Fiebre and La Sombra will also be playing sets.
Raspa Fest 2016, Saturday July 16, noon-9:30pm, general admission $15, Rosedale Park, 340 Dartmouth. Go here for more information.
