8:30 p.m.

You only go for the art, you say? Then set down the beer cup, quit tailing that hot maybe-out-of-high-schooler, and follow the Current’s handy guide to a fab First Friday.

6PM: Mo+PoMo

UTSA Satellite Space, 115 Blue Star

The annual MFA graduate show promises a variety of work that has already been more harshly criticized, more thoroughly dissected, and correspondingly edited than you’d ever dare.

6:25PM: The best that I can give you And only half of what you deserve

Blue Star Contemporary Art Center, Gallery 4,

116 Blue Star

After Katie Pell turned appliances into sparkly, amped-up, hydraulic dreamweavers last year at Artpace, we’re eager to see what she’s up to now. Blue Star promises an interactive diorama. Bonus: The Monumental Drawing show.

6:45pm: Under Construction:

a mayoral address

Cactus Bra, 106C Blue Star

See the Current’s interview, page 15, with the Mayor of Grip River, a recycling-friendly Web 2.0 community (under construction).

7pm: On this site …

Unit B Gallery, 500 Stieren

Another take on building the city of someone’s dreams, courtesy of the witty Gary Sweeney, who, we’ve heard, can also get you a great deal on the Brooklyn Bridge.

7:30pm: The Three Aethers at the Center of the Sphere

Three Walls, Blue Star, Bldg B, 106D

Maybe you missed Potter-Belmar Labs’ impromptu cinema on last weekend’s Bike Gang Summit route, so back to Blue Star to catch the improvised music-video duo’s Three Walls
installation.

8PM: Origins/Reel Lives

SAY Si Central, 1518 S. Alamo

More precocious student work, this time by the youngsters who participate in SAY Si’s programs. Two types of budding genius are on display this evening: yard art and film.

8:30PM Mike Esparza: New Paintings

El Sol Studios, 936 S. Alamo

What if Warhol had a San Quilmas soul? Something to contemplate while you check out new work by muralist and painter Mike Esparza. Young Generation provides the live soundtrack.

9pm: First Friday opening w/ Shek & wendi

Ruta Maya Riverwalk, 107 E. Martin

Expect electric work with a hard edge and, in Shek’s case, that will remind you a little of the Gorillaz … Plus live music. It’s Ruta Maya, so you can wind up with coffee or down with beer.
