Alamo Beer is celebrating its first anniversary at its brewery (202 Lamar St., alamobeer.com) with a weekend's worth of festivities. On Saturday, March 5 (noon-3pm), the brewery will host a food truck throwdown with food, beer, music and SA's best foodie Instagrammers choosing which food truck ends up on top. Participating trucks include Rickshaw Stop, La Maceta Tapatios, Teka Molino, The Box Street Social, Rock on Wheels and Umamita. Your admission price includes a sample from each of the competing trucks, and food will be available for purchase following the competition. Tickets are $15 in advance or $20 at the door for adults, and $7/$10 for kids 12 and under. Following that bash, Alamo Beer will celebrate with live music by Two Tons of Steel on Sunday, March 6, from 5 to 8 p.m. The celebration will feature plenty of beer, as well as food for purchase by Box Street Social, Wingz & Thangz and Hungry Badger.
Southtown now has two new and one not-so-new eatery in its midst. Fans of Northeastern Thai food will want to visit Baan Esaan (1035 S. Presa St., 210-354-3772), which officially opened its doors on February 24. That same day, Hearsay Urban Taste (709 S. Alamo St., 210-336-4044) ushered in a new era inside the former Starfish. The new concept is developed by chef Diego Fernandez and promises a more versatile and innovative menu. Finally, whispers of Frank, the Austin-based hot dog joint that announced its San Antonio location last April is gearing up for an opening inside 1150 S. Alamo St., which once housed the second location of Casbeers. Look for hot dogs, cold beer and hopefully a badass brunch very soon.
Finally, tickets ($150) are still available for Texas Monthly's second San Antonio Fire & Smoke dinner in San Antonio with chefs John Brand of Supper and Tim Rattray of The Granary 'Cue & Brew. The pair will collaborate and create dishes using sponsor 44 Farms' stock inside Hotel Emma (136 E. Grayston St.) on Sunday, March 6, at 6 p.m. Call 210-448-8351 for details.
