All You Can Eat (09-13-06)

A name like Posh evokes a certain air, certain expectations, and accordingly Joseph Harb opened Posh Ultra Lounge, 7959 Broadway in the Collection, to give clients the opportunity to dine and socialize while enjoying live music and other forms of entertainment. With velvet curtains, suede seats, marble tabletops, and metallic bead curtains, Posh provides a dreamy, exotic ambiance. Posh’s drinks include mixers such as pomegranate and white cranberry juice, and clients can choose from eight different types of mojitos. Drinks run from $6.50-10.50.

Posh’s dining experience centers mostly around tapas, but William Davison, executive chef, has won awards for his Philly Cheese Steak, and makes the time to smoke his own salmon. With an opening date scheduled in the next two weeks, you’ll soon be able to partake in the Posh experience yourself. For more information or to make reservations, call 804-7674 or visit Poshultra.com.

If you’re looking for something with a bit more of that puro San Antonio flavor, check out Casa Chiapas, located near the epicenter of First Friday, 926 South Alamo on the site of the original Espuma. The café serves coffee made from beans imported directly from Chiapas, along with omelets, pancakes, and huevos rancheros. The adjacent gift shop is stocked with jewelry, purses, shirts, and table runners, all handmade in Chiapas, plus a variety of work by up-and-coming artists. The decidedly warm ambience is enhanced by free WiFi. Lunch and dinner items are also available. Prices range from $1.50 for drinks and carryout items to $6.50 for sandwiches. Visit CasaChiapasSa.com or call 224-2606 for more info.

By the time you leave Casa Chiapas, you will be so refreshed by the homey atmosphere and hyped up on coffee that you will be prepared to perform your random act of kindness for the day. Follow me to Ace Mart Restaurant Supply, 1220 S. St. Mary’s, Thursday and Friday, when Ace will be hosting a canned food drive for the San Antonio Food Bank. Donators will receive a 10-percent discount. Visit Safoodbank.org or Acemart.com or call 224-0082 for details.

If there’s still room in your kitchen, take your shiny pennies to the Mission Restaurant Supply Clearance Outlet, 1315 S. St. Mary’s (on the site of the old retail store), which will celebrate its grand opening with Grand Opening Sale, 8 a.m.-5 p.m. September 13-15. The new Scratch-n-Dent appliance department is included. Visit Missionrs.com for more info.
