Opening soon: Living downtown offers many amenities, but a grocery is not one of them. Enter Roland Polanco who is aiming to reintroduce the traditional neighborhood grocery feel with his new business, Delivery Market, in the 700 block of South Alamo, next to Azúca. It is is scheduled to open on November 7.
With exposed brick walls and dark hardwood floors, the market will feature a deli area with fresh bread baked daily in addition to other market fare, which, according to Polanco, will cater to neighborhood tastes. Polanco is sending mailers to neighborhood residents asking for input.
And, if you'd rather not leave your home for groceries, Delivery Market, hence the name, will bring orders to your door - on a scooter. For those seeking vices, Polanco plans to carry about 250 brands of wine, with a large selection of beers, cigarettes, and cigars stored in a specially crafted glass humidor.
Recently opened: Kim Wah Chinese BBQ, 7080 Bandera Road, serves more than 120 American-Chinese dishes, including General Tso's chicken and sesame chicken, as well as more traditional Chinese cuisine. For information, call 520-2200 or visit the website at www.kimwah.com.
La Dolce Vita
It's doubtful there will be dancing fish, as depicted in Fellini's film Satyricon, but Piatti, 255 E. Basse, is mixing food, film, and drama for its Fellini Bellini event on Thursday, October 28. The restaurant will show the famous Italian director's work on a large screen while patrons sip bellinis - an intoxicating mix of champagne and peach schnapps - and drama students from University of Incarnate Word linger in the restaurant. The event runs from 6-10pm.
Joan Wood, chef and owner of La Cucina Cooking School and Catering in Austin, leads this hands-on bread baking workshop on Friday, October 22, from 11am-1:30pm at Central Market, 4821 Broadway. Make loaves, rolls, and pizza dough while learning to harness the mighty power of yeast. Menu includes cinnamon swirl loaves, Italian panini rolls, savory herb pizza with a perfect pizza dough, and Italian breadsticks. Cost is $50.
Futter und Wein
You don't have to sprechen die Deutsch to enjoy the Fredericksburg Food & Wine Fest on Saturday, October 23, noon-7pm at the Marktplatz, in the 100 block of West Main. Food, drink, and music by Ponty Bone & the Squeezetones and Johnny Nicholas and his All Star Band are part of the day-long celebration.
Cost is $20 for adults, $5 for people 13-21, and free for kids 12 and under.
For those willing and able to pay for special amenities, on Friday October 22, a celebration of Texas food and wine will be held at Wildseed Farms. Cost is $75. On Saturday, a patron party happens on the Marktplatz from 11am-1pm and features a gourmet luncheon. $80 includes admission to the festival. A Sunday jazz brunch in the vineyard runs from 11am-3pm. Cost is $60.

Waiting to inhale
OK, cigars aren't edible, but you might enjoy one after dinner. Diablo cigars are debuting in San Antonio at four locations next week: Club Humidor, 255 E. Basse, on Thursday, October 28, 4-8pm; Club Humidor, 11745 I-10 West, Friday, October 29, 4-8pm; the Humidor, 7074 San Pedro, Friday, October 29, noon-4pm; and the Cigar Club, 18730 Stoneoak Parkway, Saturday, October 30, noon-4pm.
