All You Can Eat

News and notes from the San Antonio food scene

Circa 1900, 1900 San Pedro, has expanded to include a club and a fully-stocked bar serving beer, 100 wines, and various liquors. While Circa 1900's upscale atmosphere includes piano music, the restaurant's more rambunctious side can be found at Club Circa, which hosts dance music, jazz, and soul. Tango nights are held Mondays, with lessons at 7pm, followed by dancing at 8pm. Wine tastings are featured Tuesdays from 5-8pm.

Those seeking a cure for the blues might turn their eye to the Sapphire Jazz Restaurant, 21455 IH-10 West. Attached to the Blue Hills Inn & Spa, Sapphire adds musical and culinary relief to Blue Hills' relaxation regimen, with live entertainment every night and a menu that includes homemade soups and salads, chicken cordon bleu, and filet mignon. Beer and wine are also available as Sapphire awaits its liquor license. Sapphire Jazz Restaurant is open Monday-Saturday, with lunch from 11am-2pm, and dinner from 6-10pm.

Change is afoot at Oro in the Emily Morgan Hotel, 705 E. Houston. New chef Shane Bruns, in his first month with the restaurant, is touching up the menu and decor with a Mediterranean flair. The menu now focuses on beef and seafood, cuisine that fits well with Bruns' specialties: Mediterranean, Italian, and French. The lunch menu is lighter, featuring sandwiches and salads. Oro's bar is also changing its tune, combining a taste of southern Europe with southern Texas by serving tapas. In addition to the 15 varieties of tapas, Bruns is planning to premiere an extensive martini list within the month. Despite all the changes, however, the price range remains under $30 for entrees. Oro is open Monday-Sunday from 6:30-10:30am, noon-2pm; Tuesday-Thursday from 5-10pm; Friday-Saturday from 5-11pm.
