It's a week of give and gluttony in old San Antone and environs. If you're not satiated when the last glass is cleared, you're not trying.

Let's start with the giving, Thursday, August 17, at Whole Foods at the Quarry (255 E. Basse, 826-4676). The store will donate a percentage of that day's net sales to Transplants for Children, the 20- year-old local charity that assists families and children with the financial and emotional costs of organ and tissue transplants. Shop at Whole Foods, but don't eat dinner, because August 17 is the last Concert Under the Stars at the San Antonio Botanical Garden. Recently reunited Latin-soul rockers Sexto Sol (who released the well-received Let There Be Fire July 29) will close out the season. The Garden sells wine, beer, and soft drinks to accompany your box dinner from Central Market (call 368-8600 by noon today to order). Break out your bocce balls August 19 for Becker Vineyards'Rambling Rosé wine showcase, noon-4 p.m. Tastings, held every 90 minutes, feature a panel of oenophiles and are designed to demonstrate how Becker's varietals stand up to rosés from around the world. Between-times, peruse the many products for sale in the gift shop made with lavender also grown at the winery, and watch the low-key bocce-ball tournament on the lawn of the gorgeous winery. Proceeds support the Hill Country Wine & Food Festival in November. The vineyard is located on Highway 290, 11 miles east of Fredericksburg, three miles west of Stonewall. Perhaps you'll discover a rosé that can take the heat at the Hatch Chile Festival. To celebrate the annual harvest of these slender, grass-green, relatively mild New Mexican chiles, Central Market (4821 Broadway) will be roasting peppers in front of the store 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Friday- Sunday, August 18-20 & 25-27 (accompanied by live music, 11 a.m.-4 p.m.). Treats served inside include Hatch Burgers, Hatch Crabcakes, and Hatch Apple Pie. Two new places to rest your palate after you've Hatched: Turquoise Grill (3720 NW Loop 410, 736-2887, Turquoisegrill.com) is serving Turkish and Mediterranean fare for lunch and dinner, 11 a.m.-3 p.m. & 5 p.m.-10 p.m. Monday-Friday; and 11 a.m.-10 p.m. Saturday & Sunday. Dallas-based Fish City Grill has opened a San Antonio location in the Northwoods Shopping Center (18130 U.S. 281 North/San Pedro, 495-FISH, Fishcitygrill.com), where they serve oysters, catfish, crabcakes, po'boys, and sundry other seafare 11 a.m.-10 p.m. Monday-Thursday, 11 a.m.-11 p.m. Friday & Saturday, and 11 a.m.-9 p.m. Sunday. Bringing us full circle in our quest for gustatory giving, proceeds from their soft opening were donated to the San Antonio Food Bank, a tradition they will continue every first Tuesday of the month with rotating charities.
