Wine poured with a plastic shot measure? Hard to believe at a wine dinner at upscale Shiraz Restaurant in Olmos Park, but our wine server poured us single shots of vino to accompany the four-course dinner. When we looked around for a refill he avoided us —not so easy to do as only five of 15 tables were occupied. When he materialized with the rosé, we told him we found the pours notably stingy and asked to speak with the owner.  The usually gracious chef and owner, Rashin Mazaheri, told us the restaurant had to throw out unused open bottles at the last wine dinner. So? Open them as needed. C’mon, get real!

Our now sullen wine server returned without the plastic doohickey pouring shots, and the two reds were served a bit more generously, even though they were in the same wine glass as the rosé. Folks, restaurants are customer-service businesses. And think about getting the banquettes recovered; our stuffing was coming out.

The meal was good, with a delicious saffron seafood bisque that was almost as thick as a stew and an excellent beef tenderloin in an olive and mushroom cream sauce.  But the brouhaha over the wine spoiled the evening for us.
