ARTIFACTS

Art lovers be warned — this weekend will leave you exhausted. Three major events in the local arts community are taking place literally on top of each other. Beginning Saturday, the fourth annual Chalk it Up festival kicks off at 10 a.m. on Houston Street. Be prepared to get a little dirty at this family-friendly affair proferring a variety of art activies. Nearly a dozen showcased artists will create original works on a monumental scale.

After dusting yourself off, stop by the first annual SMART Fair; the festivities begin at 1 p.m. One9Zero6, Fl!ght, Gallista Gallery, Salon Mijangos, and Lonestar Studios will host events until 11 p.m.

If you have enough energy to make yet another appearance at another art affair you’ll have two sweet days to take part in Southtown’s 16th annual Art in the HoodFall Art Walk, which occurs October 13-14 from noon till 6 p.m. Artists will be given an opportunity to showcase their works at various shops, restaurants, and bars in the Southtown arts district. If you’re interested, catch the preview party on October 12 from 6 p.m. at Loft 120 in the Blue Star Arts Complex. All the aforementioned events are free, so there’s no reason not to attend. See you there!
