ARTIFACTS

Artifacts neglected to pass along some exciting public-art news that the San Antonio River Foundation announced in June: Four of the seven artists SARF selected to prettify bridges and underpasses along the Museum Reach of the San Antonio River Improvements project are hometown folk. Stuart Allen, Rolando Briseño, Mark Schlesinger, and George Schroeder are joined by London’s Martin Richman, Donald Lipski of Philadelphia, and Bill Fontana of San Francisco.

Briseño, whose work you can see along with Allen’s at Blue Star this month, will be creating shade canopies for the McCullough, Brooklyn, and Ninth Street area. Schlesinger will be deploying textured concrete and glow-in-the-dark paint at the Ninth Street underpass. Metal sculptor Schroeder is creating new railings at Camden and Newell, and Allen is building interactive panels of architectural mesh for the McCullough and Brooklyn underpasses. The work is scheduled to be completed by June 2009.

Get off the beaten CAM track this weekend at the Long Hall Gallery, 618 W. Craig Pl., where Director Neal Henderson is featuring noted Mexican printmaker Gustavo Möller, alongside James Wyatt Hendricks, Ted Tower, and Chet Graham. 7-10pm Friday.
