ARTIFACTS

We trust Tuesday press conferences make sense for some working folk, just as we take it on faith that a “fall fashion collection” has utility in parts farther from the equator. But for Artifacts the former mean “after press deadline,” so you can read more about yesterday’s big Luminaria 2009 conference later this week on Curblog (no, not today; try Friday morning): a map, plans, committee chairs (Queque devotees got a snootful of that in our September 3 issue), and more for the mayor’s second-annual citywide arts fest, scheduled for March 14 in downtown SA. The Film Committee, co-chaired by Erik Bosse and Veronica Hernandez, is moving quickly to fill its slate, starting with an informational meeting at 2 p.m. Saturday, September 20, at Urban 15, 2500 S. Presa. Although the venues aren’t yet finalized, Bosse says they’re hoping to screen short films (20 minutes or less) in a seated theater, on at least one outdoor screen, and in multiple window installations. The committee is particularly interested in new works, produced within the last year, and, says Bosse, “things created just for Luminaria.” For more info, visit luminariasa.com, where applications for all art mediums should be available, or call Bosse at
