This FOTOSEPTIEMBRE USA exhibit is tricky to get to, hanging as it does in an indifferent atrium/thru-way between the offices of the North American Development Bank and the Coahuila Trade Office. Once you get in there, though, you’ll find some worthwhile images, including Alfredo de Stéfano’s nouveau landscapes, in which tiny bonfires flash, flashlights resemble light sabers, and ladders rise starkly into the ether amid a poetically parched desert backdrop.

Christina Kahlo, a grand-niece of Santa Frida, documents Mixe bands in Basel, Switzerland, who pose in ropa mexicana amid alpine austerity. And Graciela Iturbide mesmerizes with a gelatin silver print, “Mujer Angel,” which captures a woman with wild, waist-length black hair and seemingly Revolución-era costume wending her way along a rocky hillside overlooking brush country. Her left hand steadies her on the rocks, while her right hand bears an iconic, startling, 1980s-era boombox in place of an angel’s trumpet.
