ARTIFACTS

This Thursday, curator Dayna De Hoyos orchestrates the community arts event “Rummage Haus @ Stella Haus,” in which creative folk in the Blue Star area will offer myriad objects for sale, accompanied by texts that tell the stories of each thingamabob’s significance, where or who it came from, and why it’s no longer needed. A twist on the traditional art sale, these objects will be sold at garage-sale prices, and will be more along the lines of personal effects than works of art. De Hoyos took the idea from a project by Harrell Fletcher, a Portland-based artist who “creates socially engaged interdisciplinary projects” such as the public-arts bonanza website learningtoloveyoumore.com, which instructs any and all comers to construct objects or perform tasks, such as to “Climb to the top of a tree and take a picture of the view,” and then post the results. Fletcher gave De Hoyos permission to enact Rummage Haus, with the stipulation that photos of the event be sent to him. Artists and others participating in “Rummage Haus” will include The Swede, Julia Landois, Lili Pena Dyer, Jason Willome, Sky Patterson, Allegra Castro, and yours truly. 6pm Apr 2, 106A Blue Star Building B. Also open First Friday.
