WINNER: Bryan Ortiz
Making his way to San Antonio by way of Brownsville in 2003, University of the Incarnate Word graduate Bryan Ortiz cut his teeth in the feature film arena with Doctor S Battles the Sex Crazed Reefer Zombies: The Movie in 2009. He also directed actress Lacey Chabert (Mean Girls) in the 2013 horror anthology Sanitarium. Recently, Ortiz, 31, has focused on more collaborative work by lending his talents (graphics, camerawork, lighting, editing, producing) to other local filmmakers, like Scott Langford (Remake) and YouTubers like Nathan Medina (Juice from the Box). He's also lending a hand in the production of Alamo City Studios, a future production hub in San Antonio. In the next year or two, Ortiz hopes to "create a strong short film" he can submit to the film festival circuit. "I'm not going to make the next Batman," he said. "But I want to take my expertise from my other films and make something great."
