Bidding adieu to Tangeré and Le Midi

Tangeré, we hardly knew ye. Though much lauded after its opening a few months ago, the Mediterranean bistro has already shut down. Hopes were high when life returned to the former Shiraz location in Olmos Park. Tangeré owner Erick Abrams had already shown his flair for restaurants with the former Metropolitain at the Quarry. But what was announced as a temporary closure earlier this month has officially turned permanent.

I, for one, was giving the restaurant a couple months to get into the groove before trying it out. Little did I know, they weren’t going to be around long enough to get any groove at all.

We also bid a sad adieu this week to Le Midi, Jean Francois Poujol’s French downtown restaurant. Poujol closed Le Midi to focus on his other restaurant, Tost, and Le Midi’s website already redirects to Tost’s. Poujol opened Le Midi in 2009 in the old Yokonyu space. While closures of good restaurants can be a downer, word has it a restaurant group is already planning an Italian restaurant in the newly vacated space.
