Tiu Steppi’s (9910 W Loop 1604 N, Ste 123), owned and operated by the same folks who brought us Two Step Restaurant & Cantina, is now open. The neighborhood Italian restaurant will focus on wood-fired pizzas, fresh pasta and accessible beers and wines available to go. Located in the same shopping center as Two Step, the pizza place opens 4 to 10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 4 p.m. to midnight on Fridays and Saturdays.
On your craft beer report: Cabotella via Baja Brewing out of the Mexican state of Baja California Sur, is now available at Gabriel’s and Spec’s at about $8.99 for a six-pack. The Mexican blond ale is easy drinking, if a tad bit sweet, and geared toward warmer climates. Grab it if you need something to make our unseasonable 85-degree November days more palatable.
Fodor’s Travel released a list of places to eat and drink in SA, which included area favorites such as Bakery Lorraine, The Luxury, the Pearl Brewery, The Monterey and The Brooklynite. While we’re at it, San Antonio was also recognized by Mobile-Cuisine.com as THE city in which to open a food truck. The site looked at city population, growth predictions, weather, current size of the local food industry, licensing costs, freedom to operate under existing food truck laws, acceptance of small business entrepreneurs by local politicians and the strength of food truck organizations.

Considering we’re all about to consume disgusting amounts of turkey and other fowl in a matter of days, be aware that the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service is recalling 251 pounds of poultry from Fran’s Fryers, a Milford, TX-based company. The items in question were produced without federal inspection due to a miscommunication during Veterans Day. Check your pollo packages, just to be safe.
To help shoppers comply with the diabetes exchange system, H-E-B stores are now featuring a purple “Carb Aware” label, which designates items that contain 0-15 grams of carbs per serving. The grocery chain also introduced vegan, vegetarian and whole grain icons, which should make healthy shopping a helluva lot easier.
