Taco Haven (1032 S Presa) came under fire on its Facebook and Yelp pages this past weekend after anti-NDO protestors hoping to recall the ordinance’s sponsor, District 1’s Diego Bernal, were seen outside the Southtown favorite, leaving loyal gay-friendly customers insulted. During a lunchtime visit on Monday, a member of the Haven-owning Torres family said they hoped to release a statement by the end of the day (no statement was released at press time). San Antonio Yelp Community Manager Gloria Carey said vigilante-type reviews not based on specific customer experiences at the restaurant aren’t allowed as part of the site’s terms of service. Most of the posts in question were removed as of press time.

Over at Feast (1024 S Alamo), chef Stefan Bowers announced the next Monday Night Guest Chef dinner for November 25. The chef? None other than former Beat Street Coffee & Bistro exec, Jeff Wiley. Previous guest chefs include Robbie Nowlin, chef de cuisine at Omni La Mansion del Rio, and Jenn Dobbertin of Hot Mess Food. Tickets to these see-and-be-seen tasting menu dinners tend to sell out extremely quick, so get yours ASAP.

In dreamy chef news, John Besh will visit his SA restaurant, Lüke Riverwalk (125 E Houston), on Thursday, November 14, to sign copies of his latest book, Cooking from the Heart. The book, Besh’s third, features 140 easy-to-follow recipes and dozens of drool-worthy photographs. Chef Cat Cora, the first female Iron Chef America, will also be in town on Thursday for a holiday cooking demonstration and book signing inside Macy’s at North Star Mall (7400 San Pedro, Ste 200).

I can almost taste it! Cured at Pearl (306 Pearl Pkwy) finally launched its Facebook page, and put out calls for applications for all positions via Craigslist. I’m looking forward to checking out what chef Steven McHugh’s been working on since leaving Lüke. Read more about it in our Q&A with him in this year’s Flavor.

Let’s talk Thanksgiving. The Granary ‘Cue & Brew (602 Avenue A) and Bakery Lorraine (511 E Grayson) are teaming up to make T-Giving as painless as possible. The barbecue joint is offering turkey day packages that include a 14-pound smoked turkey, pickled cranberries and a 64-ounce Granary growler filled with your choice of house brew for $120 bucks. The last day to order is Saturday, November 23. Jeremy and Anne over at Bakery Lorraine are offering up an awesome (no, really) house-roasted pumpkin pie or a Jack Daniel’s pecan pie for around $24, along with several other goodies. The last day to order pies from the bakery is November 26.
