Play golf with a chef

The San Antonio New World Wine and Food Festival holds the Hole in Wine Golf Tournament on Monday, August 16, noon-midnight, at Westin La Cantera, 16641 La Cantera Pkwy. The event begins with lunch; tee off is scheduled at 1:30pm. After the tournament, the chefs will prepare a gourmet meal for the golfers. $200. Info: 930-3232.

Best bartender state finals

The "Quest for the Best Bartender" State Finals happens Tuesday, August 17, 8:30pm, at Sherlock's Baker St. Pub, 1997A W. Gray. Two finalists, Joe and Sheldon, compete in two rounds, one testing each bartender's speed by judging who can prepare a predetermined number of drinks with the fewest mistakes in the shortest time. The second round consists of tricks such as bottle tossing while preparing drinks. Free to attend. Info: laura@phcp.com.

Hands-on sushi

The Central Market Cooking School features Chef William "Goro" Pitchford of Goro's Sushi on Monday, August 16, 6:30-9pm, at its location on Broadway at Patterson. Goro will demonsrate different styles, rolling techniques, and presentation tips that can easily be done at home. The fish will be the freshest selection that day. $50. Info: 368-8617.

Wine olympics: Pinot grio

The San Antonio Wine Olympics continues, traveling to Massimo Ristorante e Bar, 1896 Nacogdoches on Wednesday, August 18, 7pm. Judges and audience members will evaluate nine Pinot Grigios. $40, prepaid reservations only. RSVP: Jan and Massimo at 342-8556.
