Where can you park a dozen gourmet food trucks in San Antonio? As of this month, at the Boardwalk on Bulverde (on Bulverde Road, between 1604 and Thousand Oaks). The mobile truck park was once a large empty lot and is now a space for the city’s food trucks to conduct business. With the Boardwalk on Bulverde’s grand opening, it seems that SA has finally hopped on the trend. Did we get on the bandwagon 5 years after every other major city? Sure, but late is better than never, I suppose.
Showing that the idea has wheels, Jason Dady (The Lodge, Tre Trattoria, Restaurant Insignia, Bin 555, Two Bros. BBQ Market) parked his DUK (Dady Underground Kitchen) Truck in the parking lot of Bin 555 Restaurant & Wine Bar (in Artisans Alley off West Bitters) last Friday night, attracting a crowd of Dady fans, Sean Elliott, and one limo full of middle-aged white dudes.
Menu is divided by price, with items for $3-$9. If you like spicy, the Thai crab green curry has a magnificent kick to it. As do the duck confit steamed buns, owing to the Sriracha-hoisin sauce — they were tasty and authentic, deserving of dim sum. Cut the spiciness with the Nutella sundae, lighter and creamier than Dady’s traditional signature Nutella desserts.
Dady says the DUK Truck will be making regular appearances in the Bin 555 parking lot as well as at the Boardwalk on Bulverde, while he toys with other potential locations. Track the DUK at twitter.com/duktruck.
