Savor The Arts
The Southwest School of Art & Craft will host its annual Savor the Arts benefit, supporting the school's youth programs, on Thursday, May 6, at 7 p.m. The event features food from 13 restaurants, as well as performances by the Infidels, and a look at the annual All School Exhibition. Participating restaurants include: Anne Marie's Restaurant & Catering, Arrachera House USA, Buck's Landing, Page Barteau Catering, Cementville Laboratory & Café, Dolores Del Rio, Floore Country Store, Jason's Deli, The Lodge Restaurant at Castle Hills, Marriott Rivercenter & Riverwalk, Michelino's on the Riverwalk, Paloma River Walk Parrilla-Grill, Sunset Station, W.D. Spicewood Winemaker's Dinner
Chef Virginia Wood, food editor of the Austin Chronicle and owner of At Home on the Range catering company, is the featured chef at a Friday, May 7 dinner at the Spicewood Vineyards in Spicewood. The planned menu features Texas ingredients paired with Spicewood wines. Dishes include: Pure Luck bleu cheese and pecan wafers; deviled eggs with smoked dried tomatoes from Boggy Creek Farm; poached Texas gulf shrimp with Rio Star grapefruit, avocado, and cherry tomatoes; roasted white tail quail with salsa de cacahuate, green rice, sautéed spring vegetables; corn and chile soufflé muffins; and a Rio Grande Valley citrus tart with candied rind of grapefruit and Brazos blackberry garnish. Cajun Fun Day
The San Antonio chapter of the Cajun French Music Association is sponsoring a Cajun Fun Day with a Gumbo Cook-off and Cajun Dance on Saturday, May 8th, from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. at Anhalt Hall, near Bergheim. Cajun offerings include: boiled crawfish and shrimp, Boudin, Crawfish Etouffée, and Chicken Sauce Piquant over rice. Admission is $8.00 adult, free for children under eight. The last official Fiesta event, the Krawfish Festival, was postponed due to fear of rain. But the event will take place on Saturday, May 8 from noon-10 p.m. The festival will feature spicy boiled crawfish straight out of Louisiana, along with hamburgers, gorditas, sausage on a stick, brisket, fajita tacos, chalupas, Pinky's Shaved Ice, funnel cakes, nachos, catfish, and margaritas.
