SA Film Slam

Texas filmmakers are invited to screen their work at the first SA Film Slam of 2006. The Slam marks the beginning of “The San Antonio Film Series.” Screenings will begin at 8pm, Friday, January 27, at the Apollo Playhouse, 1216 West Avenue. Submitting filmmakers should arrive early. $5 general / $3 submitting filmmakers.

Love and Death Film Festival

Meet the filmmakers at the U.S. premiere screenings of Mario Marazziti’s Thou Shalt Not Kill and Micki Vickoff’s Step by Step: A Journey of Hope. Sponsored by the Texas Coalition to Abolish the Death Penalty and the peaceCENTER. The event begins at 6:30pm, Saturday, January 28, at the peaceCENTER, 1443 S. St. Mary’s. Admission is free. Donations are accepted.

Civil Rights Titans

4 Little Girls
(Dir. Spike Lee)
The Know Why You Are Marching Civil Rights and Film Series continues at noon Saturday, January 28, with an appearance by Doug Jones, U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Alabama. Spike Lee’s 4 Little Girls, which is about the 1963 Birmingham church bombing, will highlight the event. Free, but reservations are encouraged.
