Natural gas rises

CPS Energy will hold a public meeting, 6 p.m. Thursday, April 20, at the Villita Assembly Building, 401 Villita, to take public comments on a proposed increase in natural-gas rates. According to CPS, the utility has not adjusted the gas base rate since 1991. The proposed increase is projected to be $2.96/month on the “service availability charge” portion of the gas bill for residential and small commercial customers. The board plans to make a recommendation at its May 1 meeting, but City Council has final authority over the decision. Visit Cpsenergy.com for more info.

Mission accomplished

San Antonio Missions National Historical Park will re-open the fully-restored Mission San Juan Capistrano convento and hold a reception to thank those who aided in the refurbishing process, which has kept the structure closed to the public since July 2005. Renovations include a new “floating” floor to prevent moisture damage, as well as a spruced-up boardwalk and handicapped-accessible walking path. Open to the public: 1-3 p.m., Saturday, April 22, 9101 Graf Road. For more information, call the Mission San Jose Visitor’s Center, 932-1001.
