Lace up your Chuck Taylors, grab a notebook, a pencil, and a six-pack of Red Bull, and take a deep breath. To celebrate its 25th anniversary and the hiring of a new curator for its contemporary and modern art collections, SAMA (200 W. Jones) is hosting two parties and a weekend of 25 artists in 25 hours September 8-10 — the equivalent of a minor in contemporary-art studies at many campuses. You’ll find a guide to the film offerings (don’t miss the highly acclaimed Russian Ark, filmed in the Hermitage), in Special Screens, page 27. Say Sí students are the belles of the ball at Friday night’s fest, 5-10 p.m., which will feature their photography and film work, projected large-scale and accompanied by the turntable stylings of DJ Ernest Gonzalez. Saturday night’s party, 7-10 p.m., is geared toward adults and will be gilded with an appearance by Los #3 Dinners (2006 winners of the Current’s Best Band of the Last 20 Years poll). If you haven’t danced in the SAMA courtyard, babe, you haven’t lived art.

Throughout the parties and during the day, 25 artists will screen films, show slides, demonstrate their derring-do, and otherwise enlighten the masses. Selected by Danville Chadbourne, Rolando Briseño, and Kathy Vargas, the lineup includes artists for every taste, such as Alex Rubio, Suzanne Paquette, Larry Graeber, Regis Shepard, Lloyd Walsh, Anne Wallace, and David Zamora Casas.
