In case you missed last month's half-dozen screenings, Straight 6 Films presents King of Bluegrass, a documentary about Jimmy Martin, bluegrass' rebel child, and his lifelong quest to become a member of the Grand Ole Opry cast `see "Pickin' and fightin', July 7-13, 2005`. A 20-minute documentary about the legendary Chicago-based honky-tonk band The Sundowners will also screen. Pre-show starts at dusk; feature screens at 9 p.m. Thursday, August 18, at the Slab at Probandt and Cevallos, across from La Tuna Icehouse. Admission is free. The Grand Illusion, a (what else?) French critique of the horrors of World War I, is a poignant and telling counterpoint to this year's "Greatest Generation" hagiography, The Great Raid.
