San Antonio's most beloved metalhead to the rescue! Robb Chavez, creator of the cable access show Robb's MetalWorks, is hosting a showcase of talent from the far reaches of Texas. The event will feature Houston-based band Dereistic, McAllen's Slow Grind, SA's Angerkill, Dallas' Deviant, El Paso's

Fueled II Fire. Local progressive metal band Power of Omens will headline. Saturday, May 3 marks the inception of what Chavez hopes will become an annual event in SA. Doors to the all-ages show at Sam's Burger Joint open at 6 p.m. Tickets are $10.

"The RMW's Crew of Mayhem will be documenting performances, and we will be conducting interviews with all the bands for a two-hour special to air later this year," says Chavez. "We will also be doing station IDs with fans in attendance. So if you think you and your friends can kick ass on tape, just pull me aside at the event, and we'll shoot it!"

Funk and soul DJ Deepfeel celebrates the launch of his new Web site,, on Friday, May 2 at the Davenport. The site will feature an interview with DJ/collector Jason Stiland of London, England, Miss Shing A Ling (Kym Fuller) from the Bronx's Top 10 list, and an MP3 mix of "Southern Comfort," a continued mix of solid Southern-based funk and soul from some of the more poular names of yesterday. There will be free CD samplers given away throughout the night.


And you thought the Japanese pop culture had the corner on cute. You ain't seen Volume One of DJ Klassen's three-part series of mix CDs yet. Polaroid is a nifty little package: The three-inch minidisc has its own cunning little jewel case, replete with a single-fold insert designed by producer and graphic designer Ernest Gonzales. The teeny-tiny thing features 20 minutes of Klassen cool, and will be sold for "five dollaz" at his CD release party on Saturday, May 3 at La Escondida (11407 West Ave., 541-0001). Realismo Magico, Theory of Everything, and DJ Jester open for Klassen, the star of the evening. Ceptacon closes with a set of jungle. •
