"The Market"

Born in Michigan and based in Austin, Jan Heaton is an accomplished artist and educator who describes her works as “personal observations of color, movement, and relationships inspired by forms in nature.” Working primarily in watercolor, Heaton puts a modern, slightly abstract and even geometric spin on organic shapes in paintings built around what she’s described as “repetitive, quiet patterns.” Inspired by her childhood garden in Detroit as well as her “obsession with living healthy, what we eat, where our food comes from, and how it is grown and prepared,” Heaton’s new series “The Market” led her to Austin farmers markets to draw creative inspiration from such “edible organic treasures” as watermelon radishes, oyster mushrooms, maroon carrots and golden beets.
