The Playhouse San Antonio brings a classic tale of growth and redemption to its stage this month — The Secret Garden. After becoming orphaned in India, the spoiled and sickly Mary Lennox is sent to live with her uncle Archibald Craven in Misselthwaite Manor. Although her life at first seems as bleak as a northern England winter, through the help of the good-natured caretakers of the manor she begins to soften and grow. It takes a while for Mary to find the titular garden, but once she does, she and the other characters are finally allowed to take full bloom — she restores the garden with another child, Dickon, and soon discovers her mysteriously ill cousin, drawing him outside and exposing him to the healing power of the garden as well. This classic tale will make for an enjoyable evening for nostalgia-seekers and families alike.
