1. Green Vegetarian Cuisine
Although some may wax nostalgic for Green's quainter days over on North Flores Street, the eatery's expansion into an airy space at the Pearl and addition of two other locations (one at Alon Market, one in Houston) hasn't changed the name of the game — serving up vegetarian comfort food in a funky, unpretentious atmosphere. Beyond keeping the eats 100 percent vegetarian (vegan upon request) and kosher (which is why they're closed on Saturdays), Green lives up to its name by recycling, using biodegradable packaging and serving free-range eggs and fair-trade coffee. Hardcore health-nuts bent on bashing them for guilty pleasures (i.e. breaded and fried veggies, chik-n filets and "popcorn tofu") clearly haven't discovered the "Lighter Side" of Green's menu, which includes such mainstays as the protein-packed Monk's Bowl and garden-fresh Raw Deal Wrap.
