After interviewing 33 witnesses and spending 380 hours investigating allegations of sexual abuse at the Karnes County immigration facility, a federal investigative agency determined no sexual misconduct occurred at the detention center.
The Office of Inspector General initiated the investigation after an inmate, sorry, detainee, with no first-hand knowledge, reported rumors that several women held at the facility were having sex with guards in a laundry room and restroom late at night or early in the morning.
While the report describes the allegations as being "inappropriate sexual relationships," multiple advocacy groups have described the allegations as sexual abuse
, rather than inappropriate relations.
The investigative field work occurred between September 19 and November 24, 2014.
