Some idiot on the North Side — or idiots — vandalized a Jewish neighborhood and synagogue by spray painting swastikas and KKK, along with other hateful words, on cars and homes, according to media reports.
“(We are) saddened and outraged,” Howard Feinberg, a board member of the Rodfei Sholom Congregation on Northwest Military Highway and Huebner told the San Antonio Express-News.
“When we were finishing our morning prayers around 7 a.m., we became aware that in the neighborhood around our synagogue, there was a lot of graffiti of the anti-Semitic and racial nature.”
The racist incident prompted bi-partisan condemnation from lawmakers.
“The ugly vandalism targeting San Antonio’s Jewish community is saddening and disgraceful. This intolerance has no place in our city. San Antonio’s diversity is what makes our community so vibrant and special. Our differences should be celebrated, not attacked,” Texas Congressman Joaquin Castro said in a statement.
Texas Lt. Governor Dan Patrick said racially targeted and anti-Semitic vandalism is unacceptable and won't be tolerated.
“This criminal and cowardice act has no place in any Texas community. I denounce the religious persecution that has taken place and I am confident the San Antonio Police Department will find those responsible for the delinquency and hold them accountable,” Patrick said in a statement.
The San Antonio Police Department tells the Express-News
that it is investigating, but hadn't released info about anyone suspected of the vandalism.
