Reports surfaced yesterday of three City of San Antonio employee email accounts that were exposed in this week's Ashley Madison account leak. One of those email accounts belongs to an employee who committed suicide on Thursday.

It's unclear at this time if the Ashley Madison hack had anything to do with the employee's death, the San Antonio Express-News reports.

Two accounts exposed this week belonged to a detective and captain with the San Antonio Police Department. The third belonged to a former city employee. None have been publicly identified, and the City did not confirm whether the employees were informed that their email addresses were leaked in the hack.

The online infidelity site does not verify emails when a user creates an account. Because of the lack of verification, the City said in a statement that it "cannot confirm whether these addresses were legitimately used to access the site," according to the Express-News. The city also clarified that access to Ashley Madison and similar sites are blocked on city computers via Internet filters.

Earlier this week, the San Antonio Current reported 99,157 Ashley Madison accounts were linked to San Antonio. Because the leak spans user account and payment information dating back to 2007, and because email address are not verified by the site, it is difficult to ascertain how many are active accounts belonging to real San Antonio residents.
