Rep. Joaquin Castro, D-San Antonio, called out Senator Bernie Sanders, a Democratic presidential hopeful, for not adequately reaching out to Latinos, according to The Texas Tribune.

While campaigning for Democratic front-runner Hillary Clinton in Iowa, Castro said that the Vermont senator’s lack of outreach to the Latino community was “a bit of a concern.”

"I want to say this in all frankness. I didn't come here to knock any of the candidates, but Sen. Sanders has not reached out to the Hispanic caucus in Congress, has not reached out to me. I've never met the gentleman. [He] has not visited Texas or the Rio Grande Valley," Castro said, according to the Tribune..

Sanders has held events in Dallas and Houston. Castro reportedly clarified that he was referring to Texas’ predominantly Latino communities. Sanders spokesperson Michael Briggs later refuted Castro’s remarks.

"The assertion that Sen. Sanders has not spoken out about Trump or on Latino issues is incorrect," Briggs said in an email to Tribune.

Clinton has campaigned in McAllen and Houston. Castro’s brother Julian, the former mayor of San Antonio who now directs the Department of Housing and Urban Development, has been linked to Clinton as a potential running mate.
