San Antonians tuned into Monday night's edition of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert saw a familiar face: Housing and Urban Development Secretary and former San Antonio Mayor Julian Castro.

The six-minute, light interview was snappy and hit on topics including:

-Whether Castro is the designated survivor (the cabinet member who doesn't attend the speech in case everyone else dies) for tonight's State of the Union Address (he's not)

-The work his department is doing with veteran homelessness

-His shaky Spanish proficiency, which Colbert tried to improve with flash cards

-Whether he and twin Rep. Julian Castro ever switch jobs for a day (he says they don't)

Like everyone else who's interviewed Castro over the past year or so, Colbert brought up rumors about the former mayor serving as former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton's running mate. And like in every other interview Castro's done over the past year or so, he deflected them.

Colbert needled Castro a little bit after he touted some of HUD's work in the wake of the Great Recession, asking whether he was currently running for office. When Castro said he wasn’t, Colbert replied “You sound a little bit like you’re running for something.”

“It’s hard to get it out of your system,” Castro said.
