This post is updated from its original version to include all members of the VITA Coalition.

The original post continues below:

With a new year comes a new season of pretending to know what a 1040 is and wishing you had saved more receipts. Tax season is upon us.

Luckily, there’s help. Free help. The City of San Antonio and the VITA Coalition, which also consists of the United Way of San Antonio and Bexar County and Catholic Charities, will offer free tax preparation for any family or individual who earned $60,000 or less last year. The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program officially kicks off on Friday, January 29 at the Guadalupe Community Center (1801 W. Cesar Chavez Blvd.) at 10 a.m.

The program has actually been up and running since January 19, and will continue to operate through Monday, April 18. In 2015, 350 community volunteers helped prepare over 34,000 in tax returns, netting taxpayers $55 million in refunds.
