As Mars Blackmon exclaimed back in the day, in the NBA “It’s gotta be the shoes.” When the Spurs embark on their annual Rodeo Road Trip this week though, it’s all about the socks. After surviving Kobe Bryant’s last game in San Antonio, Kawhi Leonard and company will be packing Stance’s official Black History Month socks, to kick off their eight game swing.

Stance describes the socks as a “detailed homage to MLK and Black History Month,” and the design includes “1929” for the year of Dr. King’s birth. The socks are available for $28 via Stance or the NBA Store online.
The Spurs rocked the socks in their recent victories against the Magic, Pelicans, Mavericks, and Lakers. Players across the league will wear them through February 11, which for the Spurs includes the start of the Rodeo Road Trip, which tips-off in Miami.

Nike recently released their Black History Month collection, which includes “Pan African-inspired color palette” informed versions of shoes for LeBron James, Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving, and Bryant. Proceeds from the line will benefit Nike’s Ever Higher Fund, which fosters mentoring for African American youth.
Adidas went with a regal vibe in honoring Olympian Jesses Owens for with their Black History Month contribution. Inspired by Owens, each pair features “cream tones, dark brown contrasts, gold accents and signature details including Owens' 733 bib number treated with gold foil on the tongue and a 1936 graphic-print in the sockliner.”

No word yet if Peak will drop a Black History Month variant of their signature Tony Parker shoe.
