Joe Piccirillo's quest for employment with 'Conan or Bust'

There are many things that can make or break a job interview. For the fresh-out-of-college marketing major it may be your communication skills. If you’re a legal aide it may be your typing proficiency. And if you’re an aspiring pop star it may all come down to whether or not you’re willing to become a total talentless whore (see Ke$ha). To stand out in this job market you are going to need a sense of creativity. For many people it’s the difference between paying back their student loans and stripping during the day shift to the sounds of ‘Tik Tok.’ Creativity even helped me get hired when I showed up to McDonald's in a Subway uniform – and also to my eventual termination when I refused to take it off. (That and yelling "I got your foot long right here" probably did nothing to help my cause, but well worth the eight months of unemployment.) For one comedian, getting a job involves a documentary film and nationwide tour. In Conan or Bust, Joe Piccirillo is taking his resume and performing it across the country in nightclubs, churches, colleges, anywhere there is a gathering of people willing to listen. From Boston to LA, Joe’s journey is being documented by director Peter Jackson (not that one) as he battles gas-station bathrooms and his own sense of shame to get the job of his dreams. It may not be as dramatic as bringing "one ring to rule them all" passed the Eye of Sauron, but for one comedian it certainly is as rewarding. To follow Joe on his quest to be a late night scribe go to, or see him in person as he brings a special performance this Thursday to Laugh Out Loud Comedy Club. A few local comedians will be adding their support, including recent Boston transplant Tom E. Morello (again – not that one).

Thursday Feb 17th, Laugh Out Loud Comedy Club, 210-541-8805. 618 N.W. Loop 410, Suite 312, 78216. 10:15. $10
