Ivan Who? San Antonian Ivan Johnson dominates Twitter b-ball talk

For at least one night, 27-year-old Atlanta Hawks rookie Ivan Johnson became the most interesting man in the NBA and the most famous San Antonian in the Twitter world.

While the Atlanta Hawks squandered several opportunities to dismiss the hobbled Miami Heat, ultimately losing 109-116 in triple overtime, the story remained focused on Johnson who broke out for a career-high 13 points. (He had scored a total of 2 career points entering the game.)

Johnson dominated basketball discussions on Twitter as individuals commented on thediamond-studded grill that he plays with, the lack of Ivan’s within the Association, his intense gaze, and that incredibly strong jaw line.

Overnight, his biography was authored in piecemeal fashion as we learned "new" details about this journeyman player. Like, in 2010, Johnson was banned for life from the Korean Basketball League due to unsportsmanlike conduct. He originally played college basketball at Cisco Junior College and subsequently played at L.A. Southwest Junior College, Oregon, and finally, Cal State San Bernadino. Moreover, during training camp, just a few weeks ago, Atlanta Hawks staff members joked (as a means of masking their fear) about who would be tasked with informing Johnson he didn’t make the team.

Fortunately, for both Johnson and the Hawks staff, he made the team and after last night’s efforts earned a Wikipedia page.

According to Johnson’s Wikipedia, he was born and raised in San Antonio, graduating from Fox Tech High School in 2002.

Tonight, Johnson went scoreless in the Hawks’ winning effort against the Charlotte Bobcats. To date, he’s only scored 15 career NBA points, but those 13 points on Thursday night went quite a long way.
