Obstruction Deconstruction

Art in the Chamber spotlights female artists with the exhibition “Obstruction-Deconstruction: Works from the Women of UTSA,” curated by Rebecca Gomez and Trina Faundeen. Touching on themes of identity and acceptance, Tsun-Chuan Liang references her Taiwanese upbringing in figurative paintings that present traditional floral patterns as second skins. Whether working in two or three dimensions, recent NICHE Award-winner Jessica Battes fuses art and science through projects that explore aquatic ecosystems, cell theory, spontaneous generation, and more. Rendered in a style that mimics digitally altered photographs, Elyse Blechman’s nostalgia-fueled paintings address “the fragility of recollection” and “the fear of forgetting.” Natalie Steele’s drawings find a swirling beauty in the midst of the destruction left by Hurricane Ike. And with her “Obscured Views” series, Libby Rowe presents Italian landmarks in the rough — Porta Potties, caution tape, and all. Free; 6-8pm Wed, Jul 25; The Greater San Antonio Chamber of Commerce, 602 E. Commerce, http://sachamber.org
