Pick of the Day: Shut Up and Play the Hits

Dylan Southern and Will Lovelace’s Shut Up and Play the Hits was designed to make audiences feel like one of the lucky 20,000 who witnessed firsthand LCD Soundsystem’s sold-out farewell concert, an epic ending that puzzled the exploding fanbase of a band at the apex of its fame. Likened to Martin Scorsese’s The Last Waltz (surrounding The Band’s final concert), the documentary evidences the emotional connection many a music lover felt with James Murphy’s cerebral brand of danceable indie-rock but also gets into the frontman’s psyche via engaging questions posed by writer Chuck Klosterman.
