Pick of the Day: Red Hot Chili Peppers

When the Red Hot Chili Peppers originally scheduled their 2012 tour, it was derailed before it even got started when singer Anthony Kiedis injured his foot, but Kiedis is now back healthy and happy and the show must go on with a rescheduled stop this weekend. Of all the bands of the mid-’80s American post-punk explosion, the Peppers seem like the most unlikely to have made it big, but their blend of funk rock and solid songwriting has proven surprisingly arena-friendly, and they’ve continued to reach the charts and fill big venues while their peers are increasingly forgotten. But buyer beware: last we checked the AT&T Center’s website, Janelle Monáe was listed as an opening act. That won’t happen, however, according to her PR people. “She was scheduled to open in March but wasn’t able to reschedule for the fall season,” Lord Kelli Andrews, from Monae’s Wondaland Arts Society collective, told the Current. Too bad. $41.50-$61.50; 7:30pm Sat, Sep 29; AT&T Center, One AT&T Center Parkway, (800) 745-3000, Check out our full online calendar of upcoming events here:
