Stay Current with the Pick of the Day: New Works: 12.3

Posted on Thu, Nov 15, 2012 at 11:50 AM

Sarah Sudhoff New Works

Heidi Zuckerman Jacobson of the Aspen Art Museum curates New Works 12.3, showcasing Artpace’s new round of resident artists: Tel Aviv’s Dor Guez, Los Angeles-based David Benjamin Sherry, and SA’s own Sarah Sudhoff. Drawing from his family history, Guez (who works with video, photography, archives, and scanograms) addresses the sociopolitical landscape of the Middle East in a project titled 40 DAYS. Sherry’s process of photographing geological formations and manipulating prints in a darkroom takes a three-dimensional turn with a foray into large-scale sculpture. Sudhoff’s photographic examinations put her subjects in a light that’s almost stranger than fiction. Inspired by “the residue of autoclaved medical waste and its future applications,” her project takes shape in an installation of mural-sized prints and a bench cast from recycled waste and concrete. Free; 6-8:30pm Thu, Nov 15; Artpace, 445 N Main, (210) 212-4900, artpace.org. Check out our full online calendar of upcoming events here: calendar.sacurrent.com.
