Stay Current with the Pick of the Day: Flamenco Flash Mob

Flamenco Flash Mob

In the last couple of years, flamenco has found its footing in flash mobs. In September, the closing ceremony of the Bienal de Flamenco de Sevilla was preluded by a flash mob set to a four-minute piece choreographed by Rafaela Carrasco and performed to Fernando Terromoto’s “Nadie lo sepá.” Dancers outside Seville also learned the steps from Carrasco’s online video and staged simultaneous flash mobs in Rome, Budapest, London, and Milan. Others have been staged as creative outbursts in protest of Spain’s financial system. The Seville-based group Flo6x8 performs in banks, dancing to songs with lyrics based on salaries and interest rates. On Saturday, Carmens de la Calle Café joins forces with Austin’s Flamencura Music & Dance Studios and local students and dancers to turn Alamo Plaza into a temporary flamenco stomping ground with a performance of the Sevillana.  Free; 5-5:15pm Sat, Nov 24; Alamo Plaza ath the Cenotaph, 300 Alamo Plaza, (210) 737-8272, Check out our full online calendar of upcoming events here:
